Staff present: Mike O'Connor, Senior officer, Natural Resources Dept. Site Visit/Meeting called to order at: 10:30AM.
Minutes of November 14, 2016 approved unanimously with no corrections.
Mr. Lind reviewed his recent work with Paul Lagg, town planner, setting up the data entry portal for the planting inventory, which utilizes an app that is loaded on any tablet and is coordinated with the town's GIS maps. The group proceeded to begin work on a protocol for the inventory, employing a metal detector to assist in plant location, utilizing the tablet for recording the data (vitality, measurements, photo) and corroborating the GPS information with the town sub meter GPS.
Approximately twenty-five wintergreen, swamp azalea, winterberry and swamp maple plantings were successfully assessed and recorded in this initial survey. Work ahead will include further development of the format, editing, map layout, etc.
It was noted that there was significant deterioration of the aluminum plant identification tags and a more substantial marker will need to be utilized going ahead.
The site visit/meeting was adjourned at 12:10 PM. Next meeting, February 27, 7:00 PM
